Discriminating

On Decmeber 23 2013 BBC news reported that

Marks and Spencers aplogise for Muslim employee refusing to serve alcohol to a customer. If we as British citizens are not allowed to discriminate, then neither should the Marks and Spencers employee, but we need to know more of the facts.  Was it in the emplyees job description that he/she would be required to carry out any duties as deemed neccessary to the function of the business.

Was there other employees available who could have changed roles with the employee?  I am very supportive of respecting beliefs of others regardless of race, religion, culture, age or gender. This is UK and people do have freedom of choice.  This is just a step too far.  If you are asked to do a job then you do it, its not as if the employee was asked to drink it!
