Sellafield Nuclear Station

I watched BBC4 documentary  on 10 August 2015 about Sellafield Nuclear Station, as it is called by the government, me I prefer to call it nuclear dump. I understand that at the time GREAT BRITAIN had the need to develop a bomb as a deterrent to show to the world GREAT BRITAIN had a good stable defence, after all Russia and USA had one.

So they developed the atom bomb developing uranium and plutonium, realising that they could get further use of the nuclear energy and have cheap or free electricity for the UK. Great news for us eh!

What they failed to tell us that to store spent rods is very difficult and only way is by submerging them in a pond for nuclear waste, then whatever nuclear energy was spent could be extracted and recycled, the waste can remain active for up to 100 years, they encase it in concrete blocks underground and monitor them regular , the heat generated can be felt above ground, there is huge potential for them to catch fire and the outcome would be catastrophic as one small plant exposed for one 1 hour died, the effects on human, plants and animal live would be devastating if there had to be a chain reaction from one of these buried cylinders going off.

In the research things happened that scientist had not thought about or said could not happen, but did. They did not know how to cope with putting one out that WAS on fire as they thought it could never happen.

I get it, we need to develop technology it seems no technology will be big enough to deal with this if it goes wrong. What I don't get is why UK government, allows other countries to dump their spent cylinders here? is it all about money and to hang with the outcome to humanity? what's more they are considering building another Nuclear station close to Sellafield, now thats a chain reaction I would not like to see happen if it goes wrong again, perish the thought.

We are merely puppets in their game and they play with our lives they surely can't say there would be more benefits than generating energy by building wind farms, that people don't want on their doorstep because of the spoilt view they would have.

I know what I would rather have on my doorstep.
